Campus Tools and Resources

  • Learning Management Systems - Vassar uses two different e-learning spaces in support of classroom instruction. These electronic tools are a great way to enhance your classes with archived handouts, readings, links, videos and other resources.
  • Using Citrix
  • Using VPN for remote access
  • Luna Imaging Inc.'s Insight is a powerful software tool for building, publishing, searching and presenting collections of digital images and other media via the Internet.
  • Vspace - Vspace is a filesharing system available to everyone with a Vassar email. It's great for documents too large for email.
  • MS Office - The Vassar Technology Trainer can offer one-on-one or department training for Microsoft Office. You can set up an appointment at training@vassar.edu or x7545

    • PowerPoint - PowerPoint is a presentation tool. If you would like help converting your PowerPoint to video, adding narration, or online use, please contact ACS.

  • Blogs - Blackboard and Moodle both support blogs. Popular off-site blogs include Wordpress and Blogger.
  • Wikis
  • Podcasts - Two easy to use (and free) audio editors are Audacity and Garageband.
  • YouTube - This is a popular social networking site that hosts a user-created database of videos. Vassar College has a channel, as well as SciVis and Media Cloisters.
  • Video Conferencing - There are several free programs available that support computer to computer video and audio conferencing (you need a microphone).
    • Skype - Skype is a free program that supports video conferencing and conference calls on Macs and PCs.
    • iChat - iChat (part of Mac OSX system software) supports video and audio conferences on Macs.

  • Survey Monkey - Survey monkey is a quick and easy way to develop a survey and collect results.
  • Smartboard - Smartboards are electronic interactive whiteboards for use in classroom instruction. We have four smartboards on campus (Blodgett, Media Cloisters, Physics and Drama). To arrange a demonstration please contact ACS.
  • Clickers - Clickers allow instructors to ask questions and gather students' responses during a lecture. (Clicker systems are also commonly called Classroom Response Systems, Student Response Systems, or Audience Response Systems.)
