Creating Assignments: An Overview

This demonstration shows how the 4 types of Assignments are used, from the viewpoint of the student:
  1. "Offline Activity" assignment
  2. "Online Text" assignment
  3. "Upload Single File" assignment
  4. "Advanced Uploading" assignment

How to Create an "Offline Activity" Assignment

To create an "Offline Activity" type of assignment:
  1. Make sure you have Editing turned on.
  2. From the "Add an activity" menu, choose "Offline activity."
  3. Enter a name for this assignment.
  4. Enter the assignment instructions for the students.
  5. Choose the appropriate options, such as those for maximum grade, due date, etc., then Save.

  6. After the students have completed their assignments, click on the "Grades" link (in the Administration block.)
  7. When you're ready, you can click on the "Grade" link for each student, to enter a grade and/or feedback. (Choose "Quick grading" to grade all the students from one page.)

How to Create an "Online Text" Assignment

To create an "Online Text" type of assignment:
  1. Make sure you have Editing turned on.
  2. From the "Add an activity" menu, choose "Activity: Online Text."
  3. Enter a name for this assignment.
  4. Enter the assignment instructions for the students.
  5. Choose the appropriate options, such as those for maximum grade, due date, etc. Choose whether or not you will be able to make inline comments on their writing. Save.

  6. After the students have entered their text, click on the link to the assignment.
  7. Click on a student's name to read his or her entry.
  8. When you're ready, you can click on the "Grade" link for each student, to enter a grade and/or feedback. (Choose "Quick grading" to grade all the students from one page.)

How to Create a "Single File Upload" Assignment

To create a "Single File Upload" type of assignment:
  1. Make sure you have Editing turned on.
  2. From the "Add an activity" menu, choose "Activity: Online Text."
  3. Enter a name for this assignment.
  4. Enter the assignment instructions for the students.
  5. Choose the appropriate options, such as those for maximum grade, due date, etc. Choose whether or not you will be able to make inline comments on their writing. Save.

  6. After the students have entered their text, click on the link to the assignment.
