Element K is an online service, used through any web browser, that offers self-paced learning of subjects such as Word, Excel, FileMaker, PhotoShop Elements, Windows XP and Mac OS X, among many others.
Who can use Element K?
Vassar has purchased enough licenses for all staff, plus some additional spots for interested administrators and faculty.
How do I enroll?
The first time you use Element K you will need to enter Vassar's access key, which is available to staff, administrators, and faculty by contacting the Help Desk.
To read detailed enrollment instructions, click here, then go to www.elementk.com to start!
Only a standard
web browser and plug-ins are required to use the training
courses. All public lab computers at Vassar are already
set up with the required plug-ins. If you are using
your own computer or an office computer, and the plug-ins
are not installed, click here
for information about system requirements, supported
browsers and installation of the plug-ins.
Important note: Macintosh users should NOT click on the Quick Plug-In setup link on the Element K site as this currently is only for Windows users. Instead, follow the instructions on the Computer Set-up link on this page.
On the My Courses page, click on the Course Catalog tab. You can simply choose a course to take. The course description and list of topics will be displayed. You can take start the course from the beginning, take only a specific topic, or take an assessment to help identify where your skill gaps are. Element K keeps track of what you have finished. As you complete courses, you will be able to view your progress.
Element K
courses can be followed at your own pace. You can repeat
sections, go back, or go forward as convenient.
As long as you have the required web browser and plug-ins,
you can complete the courses on your own schedule and
without having special software installed. The courses
use a realistic simulation. of the software you are
learning. Some of the self-study tutorials simulate
either Windows or Macintosh versions of the software,
but the the similations themselves will run on either
platform. In most cases they are very similar.
If
you have trouble with your access key or your initial
enrollment, please contact the Help
Desk by email or by calling them at x7224.
