Using VApps

VApps is simple to use.  Simply go to https://vapps.vassar.edu and log in with your Vassar User Name and Password.  If you need help using VApps, you can review our step-by-step documentation.  Both Windows and Mac users can use VApps via their desktop Citrix client or via a web-based java client, if Citrix is not present.  Most Vassar-owned computers already have this client installed.  If you don't and you need assistance, see the installation instructions.

Desktop Client (Citrix) Instructions

  1. Go to https://vapps.vassar.edu and input your Vassar user name and password.  Faculty and students should select the "ACADEMIC" domain from the drop down and staff and administrators should select the "CIS" domain.  Click "Log On".

  2. If you see the download screen below, it means you do not have a Citrix desktop client installed.  You can choose to use the Java client (web-based) or click the download button to install the Citrix desktop client. If you need assistance downloading and installing the client, review our installation instructions.

  3. You will now see all of the applications available for your use, depending on your role.  Please note, you may not see all of the same applications displayed here.  Click on any of the applications.

  4. For Windows users, the session will open seamlessly with the installed Citrix client.  Mac users will see the screen below and need to confirm that the session file should be opened with the Citrix ICA Client by clicking OK.  If you place a check in the box next to "Do this automatically from now on" you will no longer see this window.  Please note that each session will download a launch.ica file to your Desktop or Downloads folder.  These can be thrown in the Trash.

  5. Each application session will look different depending on which application you have launched.  Simply authenticate with your Vassar user name and password to begin using the application.

Web-based (java) Instructions

  1. Go to https://vapps.vassar.edu and input your Vassar user name and password.  Faculty and students should select the "ACADEMIC" domain from the drop down and staff and administrators should select the "CIS" domain.  Click "Log On".

  2. Click Try Using The Client For Java to proceed with using the Web-based Java plug-in.

  3. Depending on your browser, you may get a message asking that you allow pop-ups.  Select "Always allow pop-ups from vapps.vassar.edu" to ensure this message will not appear in the future.

  4. Place a check in the box next to "Allow all applets from "vapps.vassar.edu" and click Allow. this will ensure that you will not see this message in the future.

  5. You will now see all of the applications available for your use, depending on your role.  Please note, you may not see all of the same applications displayed here.  Click on any of the applications.

  6. Click "yes" if you receive any Security Warnings.  each application session will look different depending on which application you have launched.  Simply authenticate with your Vassar user name and password to begin using the application.

iPhone / iPod Touch Application Instructions

  1. If you are on campus, you must use Citrix via 3G if you have an iPhone.  If you have an iPod Touch, you must first connect to the FacStaff wireless network (Citrix will not work on "Handhelds") and authenticate using your Vassar user name and password.  You find your wireless networks under Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Go to the App Store and search for the "Citrix".  It is a FREE App. Touch FREE to download.

  3. Touch the Citrix icon to launch the app.

  4. Configure the account settings as shown.  The url must contain the "https://".  Enter your Vassar user name and password and the appropriate domain. Faculty and students should type "Academic".  Staff and administrators should type "CIS".

  5. You will see the list of applications available to you.  Touch the application you want to use.

  6. The application will launch.  You may have to pinch or stretch to resize the application to a comfortable viewing size.

  7. The keyboard icon will reveal the keyboard and the cursor arrow icon will switch between pan mode (panning, pinching, stretching) and scroll mode (vertical and horizontal swipe when scrollbars are present).  Touching the curved arrow icon on the left will allow you to navigate back to your list of applications.
