Checking Your System for the Flashback Trojan

  1. Download this zip file from VSpace. 
    (Note:  VSpace doesn't play nice with the Chrome browser so please use Firefox or Safari) 
  2. Double-click the downloaded file to unzip it.
    unzip 
  3. Double-click the file called Trojan-check to run it.  
  4. Click Open. This is checking for a file that the Trojan would've placed on your computer. You should see a message that is similar to the images below.

    The important part is that it says the file "DOES NOT EXIST".  If the message says anything other than "does not exist" - contact the help desk immediately at helpdesk@vassar.edu or 437-7224 (x7224 from a campus phone) and someone will assist you with the clean-up.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the file called Trojan-check-2.   The results should be similar to the image below.

This Trojan is not is not simple to clean so if you find that your system has been infected, contact the help desk immediately at helpdesk@vassar.edu or 437-7224 (x7224 from a campus phone) and someone will assist you with the clean-up.
