Practicing safe computing includes being conscious of the nature of information you, as both a citizen and an employee, have responsibility for and access to.
Data can be compromised wither accidentally or intentionally.
Social security numbers;
Telephone numbers;
Bank account information;
Residential and postal address information;
Academic records;
Personnel records (this includes medical and employment records);
Password information.
Data can be compromised either intentionally or accidentally. We want to provide you with the information you need to responsibly use all the information to which you have access.
If you have logged into a secure service (Banner, email, filesharing, etc.) using your personal credentials, be sure to log out when you are finished. Simply closing the window or quitting the program does not always invoke the same complete disconnection.
Another important way ensure ther security of your information is to password protect both your computer login on your MAC or your PC.
As an additional measure of security you can turn on a screensaver and password protect that as well, both on your MAC and on your PC.
