Cell Phone Policy FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I read the entire cell phone policy?

Vassar College Employee Cell Phone Policy (updated 5-2009)

Who is entitled to an allowance?

Cell phone allowances are provided when there is a legitimate business requirement for such a device. Each request is evaluated on a case by case basis by both the supervisor and Senior Officer.

I already have a cell phone! Do I have to get another one?

No! It is expected that you will carry just one cellular device and use it for both personal and business calls. The cell phone allowance will offset the cost of your business-related calls. Keep in mind, however, that if Vassar College requires you to carry a cell phone, the college will also offset the cost of the device and you are entitled to a new one every two years.

Do the allowances include text messaging?

The allowances are based on average voice phone usage for business purposes. You can select any phone plan and add any features you like. However, you will not receive an additional allowance for extra features or services.

Where does the bill go?

You will be responsible for receiving and paying your own bill. Please see the cell phone policy for additional information.

What happens to the phone if I leave Vassar College?

You own the cell phone and you are responsible for any changes to the contract, including cancellations. Please see the policy for additional information.
