Student Telephone Guide

Welcome to the Vassar College student telephone system provided in part by STC services.

To manage your account, you can visit the website at http://www.stcservices.com/ or by calling x4400 from on campus.

Dormitory Telephone Service

One telephone line is provided in each dorm room and activated before your arrival.  In most rooms students will share a telephone line.  There is no additional charge for receiving incoming calls or placing calls to Vassar locations with a 4-digit extension.  Off-campus calls, both local and long distance, incur additional charges and require the use of a Personal Authorization Code (see below).

The Telecommunications Office is responsible for the maintenance of the telephone line up to and including the jack on the wall.  Any equipment connected to the jack is the responsibility of the student.

Your Telephone Number

845-451-????

Students are responsible for providing a telephone and/or answering machine.  Plug your telephone into the jack labeled with an orange sticker.  All student telephone numbers begin with the prefix 451 and the local area code is 845.  If you cannot locate your telephone number on your wall jac, call extension 5460 from the phone in your room and ask the attendant to tell you the number from which you are calling.

Directories

A printed student telephone directory will be published after classes begin.  Information contained in the directory includes both student campus and home addresses as well as phone numbers.   This information is considered public directory information and the switchboard can make it available to outside callers.  If you wish to have your information excluded from this directory, you must notify the Office of the Registrar by the end of the second week of classes.

Vassar also has an automated voice attendant, which can automatically connect you to other students and departments by just saying a name or department.  This attendant is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  College switchboard operators are available from 8:30-5 Monday-Friday.

You can also find telephone information by using Askbanner, Vassar’s online directory.

Personal Authorization Codes

An 8-digit Personal Authorization Code (PAC) is required to make all off-campus calls and can be used from most campus phone lines.  PACs are issued and telephone-billing services are provided by STC Services. Using a PAC insures that each student is charged for only the calls they make.   An itemized listing of all local and long distance calls will be sent monthly by STC to each student.  For additional information about using a PAC or questions about a telephone invoice, please call STC Services at 1-888-248-1762 or x4400 from any on-campus telephone.

PAC Terms and Conditions

Telephone numbers provided by Vassar College remain the property of the college at all times.  NO products or services other than authorized calling services are to be billed to Vassar telephone numbers at anytime.  This restriction includes, but is not limited to Collect, Third Party Billed, 900/976/540/970 exchange numbers and any call to a telephone number that results in a charge being levied to the college that has not been authorized in advance.

Users are responsible for properly securing their PACs at all times.
